It soon became apparent from the increasing demand, that a bigger premises would be required." I built a shed in Ormond Road and we moved our business there," said Richard, who undertook commercial projects for a number of prestigious stores throughout Europe including Harrods before moving to New Zealand in 2004. "But again that became too small, and moved to larger premises at Makaraka, and now to our present location which is a lot bigger with more space to do our work. "All our growth comes down to the support of our customers and we thank them for that as it is those people who help keep our dream alive."

Cherrywood employs a number of staff excluding Richard and Bonnie who are the owner operators.

Richard said his business was unique for Gisborne and had a number of qualities that set it apart from its competitors. "We make top quality hand crafted products for a reasonable price and put emotion into each and every piece that we make," he said. "We treat every customer as an individual and work to meet their every need. We offer a five-year warranty and deal with every aspect of the project from the design stage through to installation and maintenance if required".
